
Stop Overstocking Your Infrared Lamps
If you’re running a PET blowing or thermoforming line, you know the drill. A lamp pops, the cycle time slips, and suddenly you’re scrambling. It’s a headache. Most plants try to fix this by hoarding expensive quartz lamps. They buy way too many just to make sure they never hit a standstill. But here’s the problem: that’s a lot of cash sitting on a shelf. And sometimes, by the time you actually need those spares, they’ve just sat there too long or the specs have changed.
The heat struggle
Getting PET and PVC to that “sweet spot”—the glass transition temperature—is a balancing act. You need enough short-wave infrared energy to get the job done fast, but not so much that you scorch the surface. That’s why we use high-wattage quartz halogen tubes. They hit peak temperature in seconds. When you’re running a high-speed blow molder, that speed is everything.
Power, voltage, and the “burnout” risk
You’ve probably wondered whether to go with 220V or 380V/400V. It really comes down to your machine’s power rail. Higher voltage usually means you can have longer tubes without the current dropping off. That keeps the heat even across the preform, which is exactly what you want. But there’s a catch. High-wattage tubes put out a ton of ambient heat. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, you aren’t just losing lamps—you’re frying your sockets and wiring. It’s a mess you definitely want to avoid.
A smarter way to buy
Buying in bulk looks great on a spreadsheet because the unit price drops. But storing all those fragile tubes is a risk. One clumsy forklift driver and your “savings” vanish. We do things differently. We use tiered pricing so you can grab smaller, pre-priced batches as you actually need them. It keeps your warehouse clean and your cash flow moving.
Getting the fit right
Whether you’re dealing with R7s or SK15 connectors, the fit has to be tight. A loose connection is a disaster waiting to happen. It creates an arc, and that arc fries the end of the lamp. Simple as that. We design our tubes as direct drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to rewire your entire oven just to swap out a burnt-out tube. You just pop the old one out, slide the new one in, and get back to work.
