
Getting Your PET Preforms Just Right: A Word on Our Halogen Lamps
If you’ve ever dealt with PET blow molding, you know the struggle. You need that plastic to hit a very specific temperature, and you need it to happen now. That’s why we built these infrared halogen lamps. They aren’t your typical heaters. They use shortwave radiation to punch right through the plastic wall. This means the preform gets soft enough to blow in seconds, but you aren’t scorching the outer surface. It’s a delicate balance, and these lamps nail it. Let’s talk power. Depending on how much room you have in your machine, we can tweak the wattage and voltage. If you’re running a high-speed line, you probably want a high-voltage setup (like 230V or 400V). It lets us cram more power into a shorter tube, which gives you that instant response time you need to keep the line moving. But a heads-up: when you’re pushing 2000W+ through a small quartz tube, things get hot. Really hot. Make sure your oven’s airflow is dialed in, or you’ll end up burning out the ends of the lamps. The build quality We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the “thermal shock” of turning on and off rapidly without cracking. For the connectors, we stick with R7s or SK15. Why? Because they’re simple. When a lamp finally dies, you can swap it out in a few minutes and get back to work without having to rewire your entire oven. Plus, some of our versions have a special coating that reflects the heat forward. It keeps the energy on the plastic where it belongs, instead of heating up your machine frame. Making it work in your oven These go right into the heating section of your blow machine. The goal is a smooth, even heat profile. If a lamp is crooked or the wattage is off, you’ll start seeing “pearls” or thin spots in your bottles. Nobody wants that. These are designed to be drop-in replacements for most of the big-name brands. As long as the length and the connector match your sockets, you’re good to go. One last tip: keep your power stable. If your voltage is jumping all over the place, these tubes won’t last nearly as long. Give them steady power, and they’ll take care of you.
