Here’s the truth about spec-ing out an infrared system: matching the voltage and wattage on a piece of paper doesn’t mean a thing. I’ve seen two lamps with the exact same specs produce wildly different results once they actually hit the shop floor. If you want to know if a lamp actually works, you have to look at two things: how it climbs in temperature and how evenly it spreads that heat. The “Rise Curve” Struggle Think of the rise curve as the speed limit for your workpiece. If the temperature spikes too fast, you’re looking at scorched surfaces or thermal shock. Not great. But if it’s too slow? Your cycle times start to crawl, and you’re losing money every minute. We spend a lot of time calibrating our filaments so the ramp-up feels linear. It’s a smoother ride. You don’t get that annoying “overshoot” you see with cheap tubes that just can’t handle their own thermal inertia. The Headache of Cold Spots Nothing kills a production run like a cold spot. Most generic tubes are hot in the middle and drop off at the ends. It’s frustrating. We fix this by being obsessive about how the filament is wound and using specific coatings where they’re needed. Do yourself a favor: take a heat map of your current Henruite lamps and put it next to our test data. We measure the Delta-T across the whole tube. If you’ve got a 15% temperature swing from end to end, your part quality is going to be all over the place. We aim to get that variance under 5%. That’s where the consistency happens. The Trade-off Now, pushing high-density heat is a bit of a double-edged sword. Sure, cramming more watts into a shorter tube cuts your heating time way down. But it puts a lot of stress on the quartz envelope. To keep the lamps from burning out early, you’ve got to make sure your reflectors are polished and your airflow is dialed in. It’s all about the balance. Forget the labels. Just put our tubes in your machine and run a thermal profile. The numbers will tell you exactly where you’re winning and where you’re wasting energy.
