Getting Your PET Bottles Right: The Secret is in the Heat
If you’re running an automatic bottle blowing machine, you know the drill. You need those PET preforms softened and ready to go the second they hit the blow mold. That’s where our shortwave IR halogen lamps come in. They don’t just “warm up” the plastic—they hit it with a thermal punch that gets the material to that perfect glass transition temperature in a matter of seconds. The power side of things To keep a high-speed line moving, you need raw heat. We use high-wattage tubes because they pack a lot of thermal density into every centimeter. Usually, we’re talking 230V or 400V. The beauty of this is that you can speed up your production without having to build a massive, sprawling oven. But here’s the catch: your wiring and power supplies have to be up to the task. If they aren’t, you’ll get voltage drops. And when that happens, your heating becomes uneven, which is a nightmare for quality control. Built to last (and easy to fix) We house the tungsten filaments in high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because it doesn’t warp when things get brutally hot. We also stick to R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re the industry standard for a reason—they’re simple drop-in replacements. If a lamp burns out, you just swap it. No need to spend your afternoon rewiring the whole oven bank. Plus, some of our tubes have a special coating. It pushes the heat inward toward the PET instead of letting it bleed out into the machine chassis. It’s just smarter. The trade-offs you should know about Shortwave IR is incredibly fast, but it’s also an absolute furnace. It creates a ton of ambient heat. If your cooling fans aren’t doing their job, the oven housing will overheat. That’s a fast track to killing your filaments way sooner than they should die. And a quick tip: keep an eye on your reflectors. If they get dusty or oxidized, they stop bouncing heat where it belongs. You’ll find yourself cranking up the power just to keep your cycle times steady, which puts a massive strain on the lamp. Keep them clean, and your gear will last a lot longer.
