Let’s Talk About White Reflector Halogen Lamps
Ever wonder why some heat lamps have that white coating on the back? It’s not for looks. It’s actually a clever way to stop heat from wasting away into the back of your machine and instead shove all that energy exactly where you need it. Think of it like a mirror for heat. By bouncing the infrared radiation forward, you get a much tighter, more intense hit of heat on your workpiece. You’re basically getting more bang for your buck—more heat for every watt you pull from the wall. Just a heads-up: if you’re opting for a high-voltage tube to get things heating up faster, keep an eye on your sockets. That extra power density can really put the squeeze on your hardware.
The Nitty-Gritty on Materials
We use high-purity quartz glass because this stuff gets incredibly hot. Normal glass would just shatter from the thermal shock. Then there’s the “halogen cycle.” Without it, the tungsten filament would just evaporate and coat the inside of the glass in a dark film. The halogen keeps the glass clear, so your lamp doesn’t dim or lose its punch over time. As for plugging them in, we usually stick with R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re easy. You can usually just pop them right into most industrial heaters. Plus, they grip tight, so you don’t have to worry about them rattling loose if your machinery vibrates.
Where They Work (and Where They Don’t)
You’ll see these all over the place—PET blowing machines, shrink tunnels, curing lines. Basically, anywhere you need heat right now. They react fast, which is great for precision work. But here’s the catch: these things runhot. If your cooling fans are too small, the heat will just build up inside the housing. Before you know it, you’re looking at melted wiring or warped reflectors. Make sure there’s plenty of breathing room around the tube. If the air gap is too tight, you’ll fry your end caps way sooner than you should.
